Indeed
Entry point and introductory experience to the Improve Jobs page
Overview
Indeed is an HR technology web platform that helps people get jobs by connecting them with employers. My internship project was primarily focused on designing experiences for SMB employers who used application tracking systems along with Indeed to find suitable candidates for their open roles.
Problem
Users do not have a permanent and intuitive entry point to the bulk-update experience where they can optimize their jobs

Solution
Using data to create entry point to the bulk-update experience through the primary navigation and designing an introduction experience to create awareness about the page

During my internship, I worked autonomously to design solutions that are not only user-centric but also consider various engineering limitations, constraints from allied teams, and the need to launch within the given time frame. My designs have been shipped are responsible for a 10% increase in user engagement with the page.
What does succuss look like?
The new design should...

Increase page visits over time

Increase the number of updates to job details over time
A Glimpse of the Solution
Before

The Problem
When users log into Indeed they were forcefully redirected to the job score page.
Users access the job score page through a dismissible banner at the top of the jobs list (home page). Also, access to the page is lost once the banner is dismissed.
After

The Solution Part 1
New feature Intro:
A less intrusive first-time experience that lets users know where they can find the entry point to the job score page

The Solution Part 2
Permanent Entry Point:
An entry point within the “Jobs” tab on the global navigation.
Process

Background
What is an Indexed job?
-
Job posts that are automatically pulled from a company’s career sites or applicant tracking systems (ATS) and listed on Indeed.
-
These jobs generally have less information than jobs that have been posted directly by the user on Indeed (aka hosted jobs).

Who is an indexed job user?
The hiring specialist
-
They are usually part of a professional HR team and use a system (like an ATS) to facilitate their hiring processes.
-
Since they act as coordinators for all things hiring and mediators between job seekers and their organizations, they need a streamlined process to manage multiple job postings.

What is a job score?
-
Job score is a visual tool that helps users understand the quality of their job post and guides them to make improvements by adding missing information.
-
Good quality job posts attract more suitable job seekers in a shorter period of time.

What is the bulk job score experience?
-
A page where users can take focused action to improve the quality of their job posts.

Research
Exploratory Research
I used 3 research methods to identify the problem and define the hypothesis.

Fresh Eyes Audit

Reviewing Existing Data

Virtual Interviews
Key Findings
Identified issue: Disruptive page redirect on login
Typical login experience
They are automatically redirected when they log in and have new indexed jobs.

Login experience with redirect
Users having newly aggregated indexed jobs are automatically redirected to the bulk job score page when they log in.

Problem validation: Supporting Data

The disruptive redirect has much lower engagement than user-driven entry-points.

Users complain about the redirect through open-ended survey responses
User expectations: Virtual interviews
We interviewed 6 participants who were existing Indeed users and SMB Hiring Specialists with varying level of expertise using Indeed's tools
User expectations
Users expect to find an entry point to the bulk job score page on the navigation bar.
-
5 of 6 participants expect to find the entry point on top of the jobs list page.
-
3 of those 5 participants expect to find it in the secondary nav bar.
